An update has come in on the future of the Has Fallen franchise. After three feature films — Olympus Has Fallen, London Has Fallen, and Angel Has Fallen — the franchise is set to make the transition to the small screen for its next installment. Deadline reports that filming is slated to soon start for Paris Has Fallen, a TV series set in the Has Fallen universe. Reportedly, the plan is to start filming in London and Paris on May 30, 2023. The series will be shopped to the U.S. and UK buyers by StudioCanal in the coming months, so it’s not yet clear where it will land just yet in those territories.
Paris Has Fallen will be introducing a new protagonist. It’s noted in the new report that franchise star Gerard Butler isn’t officially attached to the project at this time, but the actor “could make a cameo.” The series will be led by Mathieu Kassovitz. He’ll be playing Vincent, described as a “protection officer to a French Minister, who is the target of a terror group led by villain Jacob. Vincent works with MI6 operative Zara to keep the politician safe, but they eventually unravel a wider plot, suspecting that a security service colleague is feeding information to Jacob, who is always a step ahead in his mission to bring down Paris.”
No other cast members have been announced as deals are still being finalized. The series will be developed by StudioCanal, Urban Myth Films, Millennium Media, and G-Base. Howard Overman (Misfits) is writing the show while Oded Ruskin (No Man’s Land) is on board to direct. It will be produced by Overman, Johnny Caps, and Julian Murphy for StudioCanal. Butler and Alan Siegel will oversee for G-Base, while for Millennium Media, that will be Avi Lerner, Jeffrey Greenstein, Jonathan Yunger, and Yariv Lerner.
Has Fallen Moves to the Small Screen
The three movies have collectively grossed more than $523 million at the box office. There have been tentative plans to make a fourth movie in the Has Fallen series that would bring back Gerard Butler as Secret Service agent Mike Banning. Earlier this year, Butler said that work was still happening on the planned fourth film, dubbed Night Has Fallen, but that things were slow-moving. Butler confirmed that the script has been written but that the project still wasn’t ready yet to start production, with no estimate as to when that might be.
“We have a script for that, but I haven’t been working on it at the moment,” the actor said, via Comicbook.com. “We have a really fun idea, it just needs to be developed. But it’s been fun recently, making action.”
It was back in 2020 when it was initially reported that Butler would return as Mike Banning for Night Has Fallen. Back at that time, Millennium’s Jeffrey Greenstein also said that the hope was to start filming in 2021, which obviously didn’t happen.
