Manchester United have decided against the permanent transfer of Burnley striker Wout Weghorst this summer.
The Netherlands international joined the Red Devils on loan in January after the departure of Cristiano Ronaldo.
It was anticipated that he would be a good addition but Weghorst has had limited impact over the last few months.
He has struggled to find the back of the net. He has two goals from 26 outings and has yet to score in the Premier League.
It is now reported by Manchester Evening News that United won’t consider the option of landing Weghorst on a long-term deal.
The Dutchman has failed to prove his credentials and the club are willing to save their funds for the purchase of a marquee striker.
Meanwhile, Weghorst will return to the Clarets in the summer but he is likely to pursue a new challenge elsewhere.
He has been linked with a possible return to Besikas after impressing for them on loan in the first half of the season.
