Amid rising coronavirus COVID-19 cases across India, Delhi recorded a total of 823 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday (March 21). This is the highest single-day spike of coronavirus cases in Delhi in 2021.
With the addition of new COVID-19 cases, the active cases in Delhi rose to 3,618 from 3,409 in one day. The State Health Department said that one person died due to COVID-19 on Sunday taking the total death toll due to coronavirus in Delhi to 10,956.
In Mumbai, 3,779 new cases of coronavirus were recorded in the past 24 hours. This is the highest number of cases reported from the Maharashtra capital since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic.
With this, the total number of coronavirus patients in Mumbai rises to 3,62,675. Also, 10 people succumbed to the infection in Mumbai during the last 24 hours, so far, a total of 11,586 deaths have been reported from COVID-19 in Mumbai.
Maharashtra on Sunday reported 30,535 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest rise in a single day, the state health department said. With this, the state’s overall tally of the infections mounted to 24,79,682 while 99 fatalities pushed the toll to 53,399, it said.
In a related development, Rajasthan government on Sunday (March 21) announced a night curfew in eight cities from Monday (March 22). It is also mandatory for people visiting the state to carry a COVID-19 negative test report. Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot chaired a review meeting on Sunday (March 21), where these decisions were taken.
The night curfew will be imposed in Ajmer, Bhilwara, Jaipur, Jodhpur, Kota, Udaipur, Sagwada (Dungarpur) and Kushalgarh (Banswara) from 11 pm to 5 am, officials said. All markets in urban local bodies will close by 10 pm.
