Leh to reopen schools from October 14 for classes 9 to 12

All private and government schools in Ladakh’s Leh district are to reopen from October 14. Authorities of Ladakh have decided to reopen schools for classes 9 to 12. The schools were recently shut due to the increase of COVID-19 cases amongst students. 

An ordered was issued on October 11 evening by Shrikant Balasaheb Suse, the District Magistrate of Leh, it said that all government and private schools, as well as residential schools and hostels, would be allowed to reopen for Classes 9 to 12 from October 14. However, Suse also asked for people to follow strict rules regarding COVID-19. Head of schools are also requested to follow proper COVID-19 SoPs in coordination with the Chief Education Officer by October 13.

The order further said, “Till then, all the schools, including residential schools/hostels shall continue to remain closed. However, online education shall be encouraged as far as possible.”

As per the order, schools, colleges, hostels are to reopen with 50 per cent capacity. All students, teachers, heads, staff, wardens and other employees will have to go through a mandatory RT-PCR test and only those with negative reports will be allowed to enter or stay in the hostels or residential schools.

Other states like Maharashtra and Karnataka have also reopened schools for all classes across the states.
