Chelsea are being fancied to sign Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly when the transfer window reopens.
The Blues were heavily linked with Sevilla’s Jules Kounde last month, but were put off by the reported price tag.
Sevilla wanted at least €65m for the centre-back, and the valuation increased before the transfer deadline on Tuesday.
The La Liga club made it clear that they won’t sell him for less than the €80m release clause on transfer deadline day.
The Blues will make a fresh move for Kounde in January, but reports claim that Sevilla won’t negotiate until next summer.
Hence, the west London outfit may be eyeing alternatives, and it is suggested that they could return for one of their former targets.
Koulibaly is available for around €50m. The Blues are deemed favourites to pursue his services at the turn of the year.
The west London giants are long-term admirers of Koulibaly. They first attempted to land his signature in the summer of 2016.
