Ayesha Naseem and Javeria Khan out for Pakistan; West Indies opt to bat

Toss West Indies chose to bat vs Pakistan

Captain Hayley Matthews won the toss and elected to bat in warm and sunny conditions as West Indies faced a must-win clash against Pakistan in Paarl.

An unchanged West Indies came into the game with confidence after a drought-breaking six-wicket victory over Ireland in a result that snapped a 15-match losing streak in T20Is. But their chances of qualifying to the semi-finals remained slim ahead of their final Group 2 game.

Pakistan made two changes with power hitter Ayesha Naseem sidelined by a hamstring injury sustained against Ireland. Omaima Sohail replaced her while Sidra Ameen came in for out-of-form opener Javeria Khan.

A victory for Pakistan over West Indies will put significant pressure on India, who narrowly fell short to unbeaten England on Saturday.

West Indies have a commanding 13-3 record over Pakistan in T20Is, but the Bismah Maroof-led side hold the edge, having defeated them in the Women’s T20 World Cup 2020 as well as last year’s ODI World Cup.
